Male or Female Driving Instructors - Who's Better?
Finally you are 17 years old and you've reached the age you can start taking driving lessons to own that long waited drivers license. Provisional license in hand it is time to look for a driving instructor to but who to choose; a close relative, male or female driving instructor.
In this article I'll skip the close relative bit as it is subject to a whole new article but it also fits in the main theme of this article. Who's better at teaching people how to drive male or female driving instructors?
Twenty years ago I wouldn't even have content to start such a debate as the great majority of instructors were men. Nowadays women have conquered space in the industry and we can choose between male and female driving instructors.
Even so, many are reluctant in hiring women as their driver trainer. These people still think that men are better drivers than women. But I'm not here to talk about who has better driving skills and I'm here to talk who is better at teaching others how to drive.
Women tend to be more patient than men and at the same time more strict. They will teach you everything you need to know about driving with perfection but don't you dare to try and cut corners with them.
With male driver trainers besides learning all the ins and outs of driving they will also teach a trick or two such as parking skills and speeding. Not saying that women don't know how to park but I must say men do that much better than women.
Everyone learns in a different way some might prefer a male driver trainer others might opt for a female driving instructor. Above all you and your instructor must work out a personal lesson plan. This plan should be designed to give you the very best chance of passing your test and will help turn you into a safe and confident driver.
Based on your driving experience the trainer will have to determine how many lessons you will need in total before taking your driving test. In general after 10 to 15 hours classes you should be ready to take the test but if you feel that you need more lessons do no hesitate to ask your instructor.
In the end it doesn't matter if you choose a male or a female driving instructor your goal is to learn how to drive. Choose the one you think you will feel more comfortable with and last but not least good luck.

Becoming an Approved Driving Instructor in the UK
The life of a qualified driving instructor or ADI is very rewarding in many ways. You can set on your own working hours, work where you want when you want or simply use it as an extra form of income. But in order to become a qualified ADI you must pass a 3 part training course.
If you want to become an approved driving instructor here in the UK the first step you need to take is to find an ORDIT registered establishment or trainer to start you training course.
The Official Register of Driving Instructor Training (ORDIT) is a register or if you prefer a directory of all suitably qualified and inspected trainers and establishments. The regulatory who inspects and qualifies these trainers and establishments is the Driving Standards Agency (DSA).
Once you have found a qualified instructor training provider near you there are a few things you should take into account before hiring their services.
Ask if they require you to pay for the whole training course in advance. Some providers let you pay as you go along charging you by the hours you have trained. A full instructor training course cost around £3,000 to £4,000, while the training hour is around £30.
Confirm that they provide a vehicle for the test; otherwise you will have to hire one to do the tests, increasing the overall value of your course. Not to mention that training in one vehicle and doing your test in another will increase the changes you fail the test.
The Training Course
The ADI training course is divided into three parts and you will have to pass all three in order to earn an ADI certification.
1. ADI part 1 (the written exam) 2. ADI part 2 (the driving ability test) 3. ADI part 3 (the instructional ability test) R. ADI retraining (for those who failed)
The type of training courses also varies and they are divided accordingly:
F = Full time course P = Part time course C = Classroom D = Distance learning course A = Residential accommodation service
All this information can be found on the training provider' ORDIT registry. If an establishment is offering courses not listed against their entry, it is likely that these have not been approved.
Potential Earnings
Being your own boss it is up to you how much you can earn as an ADI. In general, an ADI charges £20 per hour. Lets say you teach an average of 30 hrs per week, you will earn £2,400 per month or £28,800 per year.
Don't forget to deduct petrol, vehicle running costs and off course the tax man. But as you will realise, an excellent income by any standards.
Hopefully this article provided you useful information about how to become a driving instructor and will help you choose the right driving instructor training course.
